Event Description
During the night of 24–25 August 1987, a small team from 4 Reconnaissance Regiment undertook one of the most daring special operations of the South African Border War. Their mission was to infiltrate deep into Angola and destroy the strategic bridge over the Cuito River, a vital supply route supporting the FAPLA offensive during Operation Moduler.
Inserted by helicopter, the team navigated the river by kayak under the cover of darkness before conducting a hazardous underwater demolition assault beneath the bridge. Detected by enemy forces during the operation, they fought their way to safety while enduring intense pursuit, dangerous river conditions and even crocodile attacks.
Join us as those who took part recount the planning, execution and extraordinary events of a mission that has become one of the most remarkable chapters in the South African Special Forces’ history.
